I started my phone-detox journey in May of 2017. I was spending over 5 hours on my phone everyday. That's how long the average American spends on their phone. Even after months of conscious effort, it wasn't easy weaning myself off my phone. I found myself always reaching for it. And then I learned that was by design.
After months I still had a strong impulse to check my phone. That all changed when I found grayscale mode. It was a night and day difference. What was bright and shiny was now dull and boring, and for the first time, I didn't want to be on my phone.
It was like turning your favourite dessert into your least favourite vegetable (for me it was: ).
Going gray changed my life - if this is a change you want to make in your life, to be more conscious of your phone use, join the movement.
So how do I go gray?
1) Going gray is simple! In fact, you won't need to download anything to do so. You can find instructions for both Android and iPhone below.
2) Go Gray is developing a grayscale application, with features that make grayscale a more practical experience. Learn about that below!
"I've been doing this a month now and my phone usage has dropped dramatically. It's back to being a tool and not a reward system."
"I decided to switch my phone's appearance to grayscale and oh my goodness this is amazing. The effect kicked in after only a few seconds, particularly after I pressed my home button and saw just how dull and lifeless my home screen was. It also helped that I've always liked the white-gray-black colours. Anyway, wanted to thank you for convincing me to give this a try!"
"I love it! Using grayscale is a definite benefit. Keep up the good work! Eventually, my next move will be grayscaling my laptop"
"I tried it. It's awful. I love it."
